Assistant Coach | Jake Barreau
Oklahoma head volleyball coach Lindsey Gray-Walton rolled out her coaching staff for the 2018 season on January 22, 2018. Jake Barreau was a part of Gray-Walton's inaugural staff along with Megan Pendergast and Kyle Walton.
Barreau was an assistant coach for the Missouri State Bears for four seasons after joining the program in 2014. He worked extensively with MSU’s defensive players, helping the Bears rank fifth nationally in total digs in 2015 and eighth in 2016. During Barreau’s tenure, the Bears accumulated 98 wins, three NCAA Tournament trips and the 2016 and 2017 MVC regular season title.
Barreau was a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 Award in 2016. This award is given annually to thirty up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. In March 2017, Barreau also worked on the statistical crew at the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts.
Before joining the MSU staff, Barreau was a volunteer assistant for Wisconsin’s NCAA runner-up team for the 2013 season. Working for his alma mater, Barreau prepared scouting videos and assisted in practice drills. Barreau spent the spring of 2014 as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Chicago State before joining MSU.
Prior to reaching the collegiate coaching ranks, Barreau was the head girl’s volleyball coach at Monona Grove High school in Monona, Wis., for three years. As an undergraduate at Wisconsin, Barreau was extensively involved in the club volleyball programs.
A native of Portage, Wis., Barreau graduated from Wisconsin in 2013 with degrees in marketing and Spanish.
Director of Operations | Drake Stenberg
Drake Stenberg enters his first season as OU volleyball’s director of operations in 2018, overseeing the team’s travel and operations as well as other day-to-day responsibilities.
Stenberg joins the program after a two-year stint as Assistant Director of Event Management and Operations for OU Athletics, overseeing facility use and directing gameday operations for softball, track and field, men’s and women’s tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
A two-time graduate of Northern Illinois University, Stenberg received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2013 and a master’s degree in sports management in 2015. The Sycamore, Ill., native served as a graduate assistant for NIU’s facilities and event operations for two years.
Stenberg was also an undergraduate student manager for NIU baseball in 2013 and coached high school and middle school football for five years.
Volunteer Assistant | Kyle Walton
First-year head coach Lindsey Gray-Walton announed her inaugural staff for the 2018 season on Jan. 22, 2018. Kyle Walton was added as the programs volunteer assistant, while Jake Barreau and Megan Pendergast were hired as assistant coaches.
Walton served as the head coach at Transylvania in Lexington, Ky. from 2014-17. Coaching in the Division III Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, he led the Pioneers to a 60-54 record over the last four seasons, including a 20-10 mark in 2017. Walton, who also spent his last year at Transylvania as the department’s assistant director of athletics for marketing, will work closely with the Sooners’ marketing, camp and club efforts that surround the program.
At the Division I level, Walton worked as an assistant coach for seven seasons at four institutions, including Southern Illinois, Saint Louis, Louisville and Kentucky. He also served as facility director and director of volleyball operations at Synergy Sports in Toledo, Ohio and cut his teeth coaching on the club circuit.
Walton graduated from Otterbein College in 2005 with a degree in sports management. He was part of the Cardinals’ 2002 men’s basketball Division III National Championship team.
